The highest-ranking member of Congress didn't know natural gas IS a fossil fuel.
Stephen Moore: Unleash Prosperity Hotline -- One of our favorite gaffes of recent times was when then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was asked about her personal investments in natural gas and famously declared:
“I believe natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels”—Nancy Pelosi
The highest-ranking member of Congress didn't know natural gas IS a fossil fuel. That incident got us thinking.
Maybe one reason people are so afraid of the coming tech revolution is that we call it "artificial intelligence." Why not call it "natural intelligence?" Public support will soar.
We should also start calling oil "natural petroleum." Everyone knows something that is "artificial" is bad for you and anything that is "natural" is good and healthy.
When we come to our senses and start producing coal again, it's "clean coal."
Here's another one of our bugaboos: conservatives have fallen into the habit of calling regulatory agencies "the administrative state." Whoever came up with this term should be flogged. Oh no, the administrative state is going to get us!
Who is against administration? Instead we should use the term "regulatory state" or "unelected bureaucrats."
Remember also to never use the term "budget deficit" or "national debt." Instead, the correct term is "deficit spending" and "debt spending."
"Entitlements" is a terrible term. So is "mandatory spending." Entitlement means you are owed the money and mandatory means that Congress MUST spend the money. Neither is true.
Got other ideas of how we can win the war of ideas by using better words? We’d love to hear them.
